About
Under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Mohammad Bin Zayed Al Nahyan Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi & Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces, Emirati Expressions was a celebration of artistic diversity in the United Arab Emirates.
Tourism Development & Investment Company presented a comprehensive collection of traditional and contemporary work by Emirati artists, representing many generations.
The exhibition included painting, photography, sculpture, graphic design, video, installations and calligraphy curated by Anne Baldassari, Director of the Musée National Picasso, Paris. The exhibition captured the "movement of thought" at the intersection of cultures and influences.
Artists Have Their Say
TDIC commissioned three talented and emerging filmmakers from "ADASA" film labs and "The Circle" to create the show reel for the Emirati Expressions exhibition. Khaled Al-Subaihi and Ahmed Arshi directed the show reel along with Fadel Al Muhairy who also directed and edited the film. A short clip is shown above.
The film is another aspect of the Emirati Expressions exhibition. Artists who participated in this show were invited to participate in an interview that was filmed in preparation for the exhibition. Through this film we intended to reveal the artists ideas, inspirations, challenges, and expression.
The Emirati Expressions Show Reel is a 15 minute short film presenting the Emirati Expressions artists. The Show Reel was played daily at Gallery One in Emirates Palace from January 20, 2009 to April 16, 2009.
