Talking Art Series is a monthly series of lectures taking place in the framework of the launch of the Louvre Abu Dhabi; a universal museum addressing the historic achievements of the world’s major cultures as seen from a traditional crossroads of trade and cultural exchange. Beginning in September 2011, and bringing together eminent specialists, museum curators and academics, the illustrated lectures will focus on key questions of art history to introduce the public to the artistic and historical messages of the future museum.
Presented as part of this year’s UAE National Day Celebrations, Artscape Emirati will feature a number of performances by some of the most exciting musicians, artists and poets in the UAE. The evening will include a mix of traditional poetry and mradeed – a lyrical debate between two poets – inspired by photographs in the exhibition; live concerts by a well-known oud band and several contemporary rappers; the screening of a short film made for Emirati Expressions that examines the background and work of the artists; sand-art performance; and a series of hands-on, interactive family art workshops.
Leading the public programme was a talk at Manarat Al Saadiyat by the exhibition’s Artistic Director Stephen Shore. Shore, a renowned photographer, presented a range of work from his four-decade-long career, and will discuss the important relationship between form and content in photography. This was the first in a series of public talks and panels to complement Emirati Expressions.
